Breast Reshaping - Overview

Breast reshaping is a cosmetic surgical procedure to enhance appearance by changing in shape, size and look of breasts.

There are two ways to do breast reshaping:

BREAST LIFT: Breast lift is also known as Mastopexy. It is a surgical procedure designed to lift and change the shape of breasts. In this procedure, excess tissue is removed, and breast tissue is reshaped to lift breasts and give them an improved appearance. People with sagging breasts or nipples that point downward, go for this procedure. This procedure leads to boost self-image and confidence.

BREAST AUGMENTATION: Breast Augmentation is a surgical procedure in which breasts are augmented by using an implant. Implant is inserted via incision. Incision is usually made under breast, but in some cases it may under the armpit. Various sizes and shaped implants can be chosen to reshape and enhance breasts, depending on the look a person go for.

Breast Reshaping - Symptoms

  • There are no major symptoms for this surgery, people go for this surgery willingly to make appropriate enhance their looks according to their choice.
  • Fluctuation in weight may lead to huge change in Breast appearance which may lead to Breast reshaping surgery.
  • To enhance size, shape and position of breast may lead a person to opt this surgery.
  • Person who wants to reduce excess skin from breast area can go for this surgery.

Breast Reshaping - Pre-Procedure

  • If you are a smoker than quit smoking two months before the surgery.
  • Anti-inflammations, herbal medications, blood thinners and aspirin need to be stopped before two to three weeks of surgery or as per doctor’s advice.
  • This surgery can be performed as an outpatient basis, no need to stay in hospital overnight.
  • Patient will be under general anaesthesia.

Breast Reshaping - During Procedure

  • FOR BREAST AUGMENTATION:
    • During Breast augmentation surgery, breast tissue will be raised to create an open pocket under the breast or beneath the chest wall muscle. After that Implant will be inserted behind each breast, which will help to increase the size of women’s breast. Implants will contain a saline solution (similar to salt water) although in some cases implants contain silicone gel.
    • In the case of breast asymmetry (uneven breast size), an inflatable implant will be used, which will help to adjust the level of inflation to attain breast symmetry and balance.
    • Duration of surgery is one to three hours.

 

  • FOR BREAST LIFT:
    • Breast lift procedure involves incisions. Incisions will be created as per patient’s need. Underlying breast tissue will be lifted and reshaped to improve breast contour and firmness. Nipple and areola will be repositioned. Excess breast skin will be removed to compensate for the loss of elasticity. After reshaping of breast, remaining skin will be tightened as the incisions will be closed. Incision lines will be permanent, but in most cases will fade and significantly improve over time.

 

Breast Reshaping - Post-Procedure

  • Plenty of rest and limited movement for speedy recovery.
  • Bandages will be there after surgery, to aid the healing process and minimize movement of the breasts.
  • After removal of bandages, specialized surgical bra need to be worn for several weeks.

Breast Reshaping - Risk & Complications

  • Scarring
  • Changes in nipple sensation
  • Asymmetry (uneven breast size)
  • Partial or total loss of nipples
  • Difficulty in Breastfeeding
  • Wrong position of the implant
  • Larger/Smaller breast than expected
  • Minor pain associated with surgery, which can be cure by medications.
