Hip augmentation is a procedure which helps to improvise the shape and appearance of hips with the help of implants or fat transfer (liposculpture).

 

HIP IMPLANTS:

These are generally made from soft semisolid silicone rubber, like used in silicone buttock implants. These are silicone bags, inserted into hip to change its shape.

 

FAT TRANSFER:

Another name for this procedure is liposculpture or fat grafting. This option is suitable for those who want to widen their hips while slimming their waistline. It is also known as fat grafting. This procedure involves removal of fat from stomach, back, or thighs via liposuction and transferring it to hips.

Hip Augmentation - Symptoms

There is no particular symptom for Hip Augmentation. Patients opt this procedure to make some changes in their appearance by improvising shape and appearance of hips.

Hip Augmentation - Pre-Procedure

  • If you are a smoker than quit smoking at least one month prior to surgery.
  • Stop taking ibuprofen, Motrin, aspirin and any other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, that can cause bleeding, ten days prior to surgery.
  • Stop taking blood thinners, at least one week before and after the surgery.

Hip Augmentation - During Procedure

FAT TRANSFER:

  • This procedure will be done in general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia.
  • This surgery begins with liposuction, to remove fat from abdomen and flanks.
  • Fat will be removed with the help of small tubes, which will be inserted to suck out the fat for redistribution in the hip area.
  • After removal of fat, centrifugation will be done to separate fat from blood and other cells.
  • Final stage of the procedure is to transfer fat in hip area with the help of syringes.

HIP IMPLANTS:

  • In this procedure, implants will be inserted through an incision, which will create a natural look and show instant result.
  • To make sure implants will not slip out in future, they will be positioned under muscle.
  • This cosmetic procedure is less painful.

Hip Augmentation - Post-Procedure

  • Need to wear some supportive or protective underwear for up to six weeks.
  • Sleep on stomach or back, no sleeping on sides for at least three weeks.
  • Avoid strenuous activities, including lower body exercises for at least six weeks.
  • Full recovery from Hip Augmentation takes eight weeks or more, during which patient must sleep on their stomach or back.
  • Treated area should not receive any pressure for at least three weeks after surgery.
