Rhinoplasty (Nose or nasal reshaping) is the process of permanently enhancing nasal contour by means of plastic surgery. It involves reshaping the nasal cartilage or nasal bone in order to produce a natural and harmonious nasal contour. It can also be used to open the blocked nasal passage caused by crooked, twisted or collapsed cartilage or bone.

Nose Reshaping - Symptoms

  • A person faces difficulty in breathing through nose.
  • There is permanent numbness in and around nose.
  • The possibility of an uneven looking nose.
  • There is pain, discoloration or swelling that may persist.

Nose Reshaping - Pre-Procedure

  • Stop using blood thinners, vitamin E tablets, aspirin, ibuprofen, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements before two weeks of surgery as they may increase bleeding.
  • If you are a smoker than stop smoking 2 weeks before surgery.

Nose Reshaping - During Procedure

  • Rhinoplasty is a procedure which is usually done as an Outpatient, means there is no need to stay in hospital overnight.
  • During procedure, patient will be under local anaesthesia or general anaesthesia.
  • During procedure, surgeon will make one cut across the base of nose and then reshapes the inner bone and cartilage to produce a pleasing appearance.

Nose Reshaping - Post-Procedure

  • Patient need to wear nasal splint for one week after surgery’
  • There may be swelling and some bruising around eyes after surgery that will be improving after three days of surgery which may last up to two weeks.
  • There may be little swelling on your nose which will go away over the next six months.
  • Final shape of the nose will be apparent after it healed completely.
  • Avoid strenuous activities for three to six weeks after surgery.
  • Patient can return to his/her social activities within two to three weeks after the procedure.
