A spinal cord tumor, also known as intradural tumor, begins within the spinal cord or the covering of the spinal cord. A vertebral tumor is a tumor that affects the bones of the spine (vertebrae).
Before your surgery is performed your doctor may recommend that you should have a spinal tap be performed to remove a spinal cord tumor. This procedure helps the doctor to determine if the tumor is cancerous or noncancerous. It also helps to predict its risk of spreading.

For tumors that require extensive stabilization, the surgical recovery can be 3-6 months. Also the doctor recommends the patient to rest as much as possible so that they can heal properly.
